FX is a relative market. A currency can have a compelling domestic story and still underperform if another currency has the stronger marginal driver. The starting point is therefore a map of expectations across economies, central banks and risk conditions.

Start with the expectation

A data release matters most when it changes the path markets had already priced. The headline alone rarely gives the full answer. We ask what investors expected, which detail surprised them and whether that detail changes the next policy or growth decision.

Watch the confirmation

The first currency move is evidence, but it is not the whole story. Short and long dated yields, commodities, risk appetite and the relative performance of other currencies can support or complicate the initial interpretation.

Carry a thesis, not a prediction

Each view should have a driver, catalysts to watch and clear conditions that would weaken or invalidate it. When the evidence changes, the view changes. When a headline adds noise without changing the underlying picture, the thesis need not be rewritten.
